I accidentally merged the desktop folder and documents folder. (Not sure how). Nothing is missing. I just have no "desktop" folder under my user folder and all of the individual files from the documents folder are on the desktop. I'd rather not system restore. Any help would be appreciated. Thx

Do you have any icons of your desktop?

Yes, i have the 5 original desktop icons and about 50 of the my documents icons. They are just combined now. If I delete one of them from the desktop, it disappears from the documents folder. There is no "desktop" folder in C:\Users\me\xxx

i think i would try a system restore.
click start type rstrui.exe
follow the prompts and select a date prior to the merge

I'd rather not restore. I was hoping I could through the registry or elsewhere re-create a desktop folder in C:\users\xxx area.

Problem Solved.
1. I created a folder called "Desktop" in C:\USERS\xxx
2. In the registry, I modified the value data for "Desktop" to the path above in step 1, HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders
