I am just about to put together a system and would be grateful for views on which is the best 80-120GB HDD to get. I want 1 which is quiet, reliable and fast [dont we all!] and so am considerring either:
Seagate Baracudda V: what is the advantage of getting the SATA drive over the normal one?
or the Maxtor DiamondMax 9+: again is it work holding out for the SATA one in this case?
It will be going onto an Asus A7N8X so i do have onboard SATA controller but wonder [as they are more expensive] if the perforamnce of the sata drives merit the greater price.

Thanks for the info

Switching to SATA is not a bad idea though. But SATA150 is not much different from ATA100/133 in performance wise. And you get SATA header on A7N8X Deluxe only but no power adapter. I believe MSI ships the power adapter along with mobo but not Asus. So basically you have to purchase an extra power adapter for SATA. Anyway, SATA do offer easier cable management in you chasis and it's a future-proof step. Whether this justifies the higher price should leave to your own instinct or pocket :)

You never know how stupid you are until you have done something stupid enough for you to realize it.
