I have a Gateway 700x with P4 2ghz and 256 rdram. Gateway's price for their ram is expensive , but i found a good price at googlegear.com . It's a kingston valueram PC800 which is the same as my memory. The only thing confusing is that they have a 40ns and one that doesn't say it. Any advice would be a great help from you pros. Thanks.

40ns PC800 is better than 45ns PC800 because it supports the split setting (533 CPU bus with PC800). It's backwards compatable to slower speeds, so I recommend the PC800-40 over the PC800-45.

you need to pull the ram from your gateway and looke at it

make sure you buy memory that matches your existing ram

there are 128/8 strips and 128/4 sticks, and they don't run together, as i recall. hopefully you have -40, but if not you need to buy whatever matches
