i have 2 sprint vision phones (8100's on a family plan) which are pretty
much broken and need replacing. my contract just passed 18 months. i've
been with sprint since day 1 (7 years?).
i believe the sanyo 7400 will be something like $270-$150 rebate = $120 @
costco. I don't know what they'll be at the sprintpcs stores.
i guess i need to call customer service, to get all the specifics as to what
if anything they'll do for me with regard to coming up with a price for 2
new 7400's, but before i do that, are there any
advantages/issues/disadvantages to buying the phones at costco? do i lose
anything by not going thru a sprintpcs store? i guess if i get the phones
(discounted) at a sprintstore, i'll be required to sign a new 2 year
contract and that's fine, but if i buy thru costco, is there any rebate i
would have lost out on given i'm not getting a new phone thru sprint?

My wife and I were just at a Sprint store, a few days ago... The 7400 was
$380 minus whatever rebates.

had the sanyo 8200 ($200), and a toshiba.
interestingly enuf, my local Best buy had the 8200 for $279.

Watch the fine print if you go to Best Buy. Their
advertised prices are usually for new activations.

Last August I bought an 8200 at Costco for $200.00 (plus or minus a
couple of dollars)at the register. I was eligible for the existing
customer mail-in rebate of $150.00. Net cost $50.00. Costco provided the
rebate form to mail in (you have to fill it out). I got the rebate check
a couple of months later. I called customer service to switch my number
from my old phone to the new one. No charge, but that might have been
influenced by the fact I upgraded my plan during the same phone
conversation. I do not know.
A few days later I checked the price of an 8200 at a Sprint store and at
a Radio Shack. At those two stores, the NET cost of the 8200 was $130.00
- $140.00 AFTER a $150.00 rebate.
I lost nothing by buying the phone at Costco and would have lost about
$80.00 - $90.00 if I had bought the same phone at either Radio Shack or
a Sprint Store.
ON THE OTHER HAND, I received from Sprint through the mail, a
promotional card saying I could take it to a "participating Sprint
store" and get up to a $150.00 instant rebate to replace my EXISTING
phone. I took that to mean I could NOT go to Costco for that promotion.
But I did not check it out to be sure because I had no interest in
replacing the phone I had just bought.
So always read the fine print that applies to the specific deal you are
considering. My savings on the phone at Costco over what it would have
cost me at a Sprint or Radio Shack store equals about 2-years of
membership dues at Costco.
