I have a new WD 160G HD and when I do something like formatting I'll get an occasional squeak from it. It's nothing too loud but I do worry. Should I be concerned or does it just need to be broken in? It's not like I'm gettting pops or cracks from it. What do you guys think?

My new HDs have never given that kind of noise. Not sure if yours is normal?

That can't be normal. I have a 1200JB and it sure doesn't squeek. That would drive my cat crazy.

I've got 12 WD SE drives of various sizes and none of them have squeeked.

Are you sure you don't have a mouse living in your case?
