hey Is there any REAL Proforamance differance if theres 1 harddrive per channel instead of 2 (if there the same speed rpm and dma wise)?

PS - Becasue i have always had one hardive per channel and even have baught a Promise 133TX2 so that all my hardrive/optical devices could have there own channel. But i barley notice a difference.thanks

Its POSSIBLE there may e some performance difference, but i suspect its going to be minimal.

Consider 2 drives on a ata100 channel.
100Mb/sec max theoretical bandwidth, probably around 90Mb/sec actual.
THe fastest IDE drive can read data at 50-55Mb/sec, and write at up to 40mb/sec... best case scenario... so reading from one and writing to the other might just max out the available bandwidth.

I just think its better having 1 HDD per chaneel to reduce the likely hood of conflicts and streamline things as much as possible as the HDD is invarible the slowest component in the system.

If you notice any difference it will be when copying or moving files from one disk to another. If both disks are sharing an IDE port it should be slower.
