i found the Behringer ADA8000. it does A/D/A conversion to and from
adat/analog.
would this give me 8 trks of recording to the MOTU 828 via lightpipe
SIMULTANEOUSLY with the 8 trks of analog recording?

remember, this is the MkI...not the MkII im asking about.

Dread,
You are correct. I am doing the same thing right now with the
Audient ASP-008 8 ch preamp with lightpipe output. I don't have the
extra D/A but it is there on the 828 if you wanted to use it. I am
running DP4 and all I had to do was create a path for it in the Audio
Bundles. The only hang up to this setup is system performance. You
are only going to be able to record as many tracks as your CPU will
allow. Assuming that you have a fairly modern computer, you should be
fine.

thanks craig.
wont the system performance be a bottleneck even if i got 2 828's for
the 16trk recording anyway?

It may, or it may not. It depends on your computer's horsepower. If
you're asking if the drain on your computer would be the same if you
used (2) 828's as opposed to (1) 828 and the Behringer pre, the answer
is yes. You are recording 16 tracks in either scenario, and the drain on
your computer would be similar.

Your software may allow you to tweak the hard drive usage parameters,
which will help. Audiodesk (and Digital Performer, I assume) does in
the studio size setup window.
