Hearts of Iron 2 questions

Hello,

I will have to post these here and hope someone knows the answers, because I
cannot do anything on the official forums with constant times outs. In fact,
once I login, I cannot even read it.

So:

1) Do battleships automatically bombard when next to a provence with a
battle like they did in HOI1?

2) How do I grant military access to my allies? I am playing the UK and have
invaded Europe. It wasn't until I annexed Germany, and then liberated
Germany, France, and Czech before I got any help. When checking who has
access, I can see why. Most of my allies do not have military access. Any
ideas how to get around this?

3) I am really, really, really short of manpower. If I disband some of my
inventory, is the manpower put back into the pool, or lost. From the looks
of things it goes back into the pool, but that could be the normal manpower
gain..

4) What is the best way of dealing with Vichy France? Once I have "proper"
france back (apart from the Vichy territories), do I need to declare war on
Vichy France and take it by force?

5) I normally play the UK on normal skill level and have never had the
Japanese join the Axis. Is this because of the skill level, or do they
rarely join?

Thank you very much to anyone who can help. It is a fantastic game, great
entertainment, but damn it, I need to spend less time playing it :)

Found the answer to this by reading the dialog box :) In HOI2 it will
automatically return some manpower (10 in this case) to the pool.

Any other answers appreciated.

Cheers

I beleive the answer is yes. In addition you can set that to be its mission
which, as far as I can tell, means it will stay in that sea zone(?) waiting
for opportunities to bombard (only happens during land combat).

I believe allies automatically have military access (even though you can
grant it again). I have also noticed that my allies don't send me much aid
unless I am in the midst of combat (and sometimes not even then; Britain
sent me no aid when Germany atacked me while I was France).

Not sure about your other questions as I have only played as Germany and
France.

Yes.

One of the things I did as the UK was take military control of Poland,
and military control of Denmark when they entered the war. I sent
both their navys to England and disbanded them all for the manpower
when they were annexed. If only I could keep their air forces too.
