Two is better than one. Go check out the Gigabyte KT400A mobo review and you'll know. The superior one is nForce2 in dual channel DDR, nForce2 in single channel DDR had been beaten by KT400A. Doesn't the Twinbank technology one of the reasons you buy nForce2 mobo?

if the mem controller is dualbank (ie nforce2) then 2 pieces will do, if it is single (KTxxx) then one or two pieces will make little or no difference...

these invalid ones are far too commonplace...
That's not entirely true... typically one large dimm has slower timings and is harder to overclock than a smaller dimm with standard oem ram. In such a case I would go with 2 sticks over one...
