LiteOn 166 is already a 16x/48x DVD drive. What is the other drive you want to compare with? Anyway, LiteOn drives are pretty good reading data and audio protected cd's.

Yeah you have confused me too.
the 166S is a 16x48x dvd drive.
Compared to other liteon DVD drives of different revisions you might see some minor differences, but for proper reading of copy protected cd's its much better to use a cd-rw drives.
They can handle things much better.

I have both a liteon DVD and a 48x24x cd-rw.
I use the dvd for reading dvd's, standard game installs, audio cd playing and the like.

The burner does all the burning and reading of "tricky" media

one would guess that the combo drive would be pretty decent... but tis too early to tell.
wait for some reviews to surface.
