im about to fix a friends PC by puttin on win2k. just to refhresh my memory... there is no way to do an update from ME to 2k is there?
i have to do a full reinstall preferably from a fresh format right?

YAY.

she wants to keep all her settings and programs and stuff, but the OS is a complete CROCK.
so this gives me a wonderful excuse to copy all her stuff to the server, format the buggery out of it and build a decent system from the ground up (lots of patches!)

its a duron 800 with a tnt2 on a kt133, and boy does ME suck on it.

i know... 2000 is mega stable on mine, and the mobo is even partially fried (just gotta avoid excessive zip archiving and divx making) - will be fixed by my upcomming new mobo.

anyway ive also burnt onto a rewritable a collection of useful thinggies, in addittion to the win2k cd.
sp2, the big win2k security patch, via4in1's, detonators, other drivers, etcetc.

and i know from previous testing the PC itself is stable.
ran toast on it for an hour no probs, and memtest was fine, as was hard drive integrity...
just the OS sucks hamster wiener.

I never really understood what ME was about other than a lot of people upgraded to it trusting
Micro$oft. They lost a lot of good PR with that OS. Of course, they made money but lost favor and support
from some. It looks like you are set to go. Good luck!

they had to release ME to suck in more dollars. at the time win2k was still in development, and as it turned out win2k wasnt for the masses anyway (too stable?)

biggest loada junk since win95 first editon.
win98SE with extra emotional baggage LOL

u should see this system... a dozen programs resident in memory after a bootup, mouse goes spastic (think i fixed that, loose connection), 23 individual instances of spyware found (hugs ad-aware)...

and i didnt get to wipe it grrr. didnt have the house server setup to dump all her personal stuff.

on the plus side though i got to paruse her porn stash.

hopefully by the end of the week i get to NUKE it
