SE4 bugs going to be fixed? And what about SE5?

Lurking in a Shrapnel forum I discovered a long list of still-existing
bugs (56, to be exact) in Space Empires 4 Gold, which surprised me a
great deal for a game that had be sold, patched, then sold again as
"gold", then patched again. Now they are developing SE5 while SE4
remains bugged. Is Malfador ever going to finish debugging SE4? And
if not, why should I have any confidence that SE5 will ever be
bug-free?

I have played many, many, many games of SEIV and you really don't notice the
bugs.

Anyway, not getting all the bugs never stopped MS nor EA nor any other
company.

Every interesting bit of code contains bugs. Some bugs are worse than
others.
Clearly the active SE community believes 4 was stable enough to spend a good
bit of time on.

Most of those bugs arent what I would call bugs. More like players
disagreeing with the way the game does some things. Suggested
improvements would fit them more I think.

But Malfador has always listed to the player so I wouldnt be surprised if
it gets patched. What might get in the way is the fact that Shrapnel
Games was the publisher for Space Empires IV Gold. And Strategy First is
now the publisher for Space Empires V.

Apparently there will be another release of Space Empires IV but it has
to be released as "Deluxe" instead of "Gold" for obvious reasons. I
understand that it is supposed to be updated in some ways but Im not sure
how. The more interesting player-made mods and tools that were on the
Gold disc have been updated but the authors of them have apparently not
been contacted about inclusion on the Deluxe disc

Thanks for the info. I sure hope they don't try to charge me again for
a game I've already paid for twice. I'm not biting on that particular
bait. They should just fix whatever's still broken.

Well, then, Malfador should release a patch for SE4 gold that includes
all fixes that go into the new release. I'm just not going to pay a
third time for the same game because it's being released by a third
publisher. I support independent developers, but it seems to me that
Malfador is trying to milk their customer base a little too hard with
this third publisher.

Since its a new publisher Im afraid you start over with the "I already paid
you" stuff. The new publisher has no way to verify that even if they did
care.

I read in one of the SEIV forums that there is going to be such a free
patch.

Sorry can't remember which one. (Malfador or Shrapnel probably)
