It looks like I finally have to give up on my StarTac/Wireless Web
option, and move up to Vision. #2932 is just too slow nowadays for
most all websites.
I need some advice on selecting a phone. I will have to occasionally
use #777 to get my laptop on the Internet. Which of the phones
currently offered on Sprint's website work well with #777/laptop. By
working well, I mean phones for which the connection cable is readily
available, and modem drivers for Windows XP are readily available. I
also need a phone that can roam on analog.

Joe, any of the Sanyos or Samsung phones should do nicely.

My Samsung A680 works fine, except that the USB cable and the
charger cord do not fit at the same time, and the useful battery life
isn't all that long.

I just upgraded to a Samsung VGA100 SPH-A-620 phone. And using a
www.boxwave.com miniSynch cable with my XP laptop all worked perfectly as
advertised the FIRST time. I recommend my phone and USB cable.

I had same problem. I tried and like my data cable from www.boxwave.com Cable charges while phone, A-620, is connected to USB port. I can even
charge another phone and mine at same time.
