hey i just bought 2 Maxtor 80gb HDs i have both hooked up on their own IDE cable(each HD has its own IDE cable, there are not 2 HDs on 1 cable) both are set to master, both cables are ATA Ultra 80 pin. Now, my problem is when i boot up... I have one DVD ROM drive that i put on the middle connector of the cable with my secondary HD on it. When i start up (i havn't installed an OS yet) it says there is only 1 HD in bios... I unplugged my DVD ROM so that only the HD was on that cable. When i booted up it showed both HDs. This is really weird, i'm not sure if i've done something wrong or what. At first i thought it was a cable problem, but i've already tried 2 cables that i know worked. So if anyone at all can help me it would be great. In conclusion... i can hook up 2 HDs to my comp, but only when i dont plug the DVD ROM in, when i do have the dvd rom plugged in it only shows 1 HD as being connected. Thanks

hehe yep.

Look drive -> Think Jumpers -> Think IDE config -> manhandle drive into cramped bay -> struggle attaching dumb ribbon cables -> curse as you scrape your hand on something sharp -> Turn system on -> Turn system off as it doesnt boot properly -> rearrange master/slave -> turn on again -> curse some more -> mysteriously starts working

SATA will be nice when it completely takes over from PATA.
