What is the opinion on these two phones. Has anyone had the pleasure of
owning both phones? Which one would you get?

Thanks,

That's a no brainer. Since the 4500 is a 2g phone without Vision I'd get the
7400.

I have both in the family and have just moved to the 7400 from the
4500/5500. There's not a huge difference between the two in general use.
Screen size, inside and outside, is the same but the 7400's higher pixel
count on the inside screen is nice. Of course the 7400 has the multimedia
viewer which is kinda' cool but I not sure how much I need it. The 7400 is
slightly larger but I think the listening audio is a bit better and not so
sensitive to where you place it on your ear. The menu layout is different
but most items are the same. The one thing I like the most about the 7400
is that you can now have a low volume ringer AND vibrate. In my mind
vibrate should be an independant choice from ringer volume but Sprint has
decided not to offer it that way. 7400 still works as a modem and sorta'
works with Bitpim. Both will use either style charger plug and the standard
Sanyo USB cable. I can't tell much difference in battery life. I would
almost say the 7400 is better with a signal but there's so many variables I
could be completely wrong. 7400 is $129 at Costco after the rebate if you
qualify. 4500/5500 is no longer available at my local Costco's.

Thanks for the detailed response regarding this phone. I have also found one
more very important feature that 7400 has that is not present of the 4500.

All text entries that I place in the phone book are automatically available
as voice dials. Therefore, if I enter the name "Joe Smith" in the contacts
list, all I have to do to call Joe Smith is to speak the name and the phone
will dial his number from the contact list.

On the 4500, it is possible to do the same thing, however entry of Joe
Smith's name into the contacts list is much more cumbersome. First I must
enter Joe Smith's name into the contact list. After I have entered Joe's
name, please note that he is NOT available as a voice dial. If I want Joe to
be available as a voice dial, I must record his name by speaking it and then
associate the spoken name with a phone book entry. This is old way of
creating voice dials and has the disadvantage that the phone cannot contain
many names that can be voice dialed. This method BLOZE!!

The new method that is implemented in the 7400 requires that you simply add
the entry to the contacts list and it is automatically available as a voice
mail.
