I saw this ad in a local classified section and was wondering if this is a
good price for this unit?

2 Channel Custom Racked SSL Mic Preamps - $900

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

These mic pres are custom racked and include a 24 volt power supply. There
is phantom power, a pad and phase invert. They are about 6 months old and
are in mint conidtion both functionally and cosmetically. There is xlr ins
and outs on the back of the unit. The preamp modules inside are E series. If
compared to neve or api, they sound very clean and rich. I love them for
drum overheads.

I can't afford them and I'm sad to see them go---I'm asking 900 but I'm
willing to negotiate if they sell quick.

Compared with Neve or API, an SSL preamp sounds clean and rich?

God, it's bad enough having to use the consoles as stock, without having to
use the things in outboard channel strips too.

I would think removed of the SSL buss problems, and voltage issues, they might
actually sound clean, particularly for HipHop/Rap type drum sounds.

I know very experienced folks who like the ssl pre. I've only played
with them a little and didn't have a problem with them.
