I've been following a couple of monitor threads and have seen a number
of references made to the poor performance of the KRK K-RoK monitors
and I can't for the life of me figure out why?
These monitors have gotten some very favorable reviews from various
sources over the years.
Granted these are not high end Genelecs, but within their range they
are very nice monitors that offer tremendous performance for the
dollar.
I've been using a set for a couple of years now and my mixes translate
very well to other systems. I have however taken the time to position
them and properly voice my room. These speakers will produce a decent
tone down to around 50hz or so and at the same time produce a
wonderful soundstage with very nice imaging.
The only fault I can find with them is that the upper mids are a
slight bit peaked, but nothing like Yamaha or Alesis.
Again the key is proper placement. Placing them against a brick wall
in the corners of the studio will produce horrible, booming mid-bass.
Putting them too close to the console, at least in my studio gives a
little bit too forward sound.
I'm running about 72 inches on an equilateral triangle and the
monitors are 8 inches from the wall, but not near any corners.
I like the K-RoKs so much I am considering getting a sub-woofer to
compliment them.
