Dear List Members (especially Fostex D160 users),

Do you have any experience with latest hard drives and Fostex D160 (with
latest software - V2.13)? On the supported HD list with this model
(http://www.fostex.co.jp/int/hdlist/d160.html) there are only EIDE HD
models there are out of production. I've heard that threre could be some
troubles using other HD? So, what's your opinion about it? Maybe someone
can say: "I use ................ model and it works OK".

Regards

Jack

I have the VR-800 and with the update on their site I use 80GB 7200
Western digital.
I use that for field recording. Tremendous big recording time for 8
channels 16bit, 4.1khz.
Regards
Dimitrios

Thanks, but I've asked about D160.

Hi Jack,

A great place to ask this question is in the Yahoo Groups FDUG forum (
Fostex D-Series User Group ) :
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/fdug/

Look for posts by Ronnie Morris in particular and read a thread called
"Where to find working hard drives for D-90"

Also the Fostex forum on HomeRecording.org is a good place to ask :
http://homerecording.com/bbs/index.php?

Since Maxtor bought out Quantum, a fairly safe bet is trying Maxtor hard
drives that still bear the same model names and some of the Quantum models
that were known to word in the D series machines. Here is a Maxtor 40 gb
Fireball model for $58 :
http://www.allstarshop.com/shop/pr [...] A5SQTJ27C2
( I can't remember if the 5400 RPM speed is enough to do 16 tracks at once
or not ) There is a jumper you'll need to set I believe on the hard drive to
limit it's size to 32 gb, otherwise the D160 wont be able to format it
correctly.

And you can always search Ebay for new and used drives that may work. Do a
search for "Quantum Fireball" and then look for models with "AS" or "LM" in
the model name as a potential good choice.

Best of luck.
