Hello!

Does anyone know how to fix a Palm Tungsten C's stylus input that
doesn't register fully at the bottom right corner of the screen. This
is usually where the down arrow graphic is. Everywhere else seems fine
in terms of sensitivity. Rerunning the digitializer didn't seem to help.
The problem started about two days ago. Is there a fix for this beside
sending the PDA back to Palm for a repair?

Thank you in advance.

If you have it warranted, then I suggest you send it to be repaired.
Otherwise, there are some applications that will swap around regions that
are pressed over.

Perhaps you can also fool the digitiser and make a very unpleasant
positional offset so that you can "reach" the bottom right. Whether it's
worth the repair or not depends on your financial considerations and what
you estimate to be the remaining life-time of your Palm.

Yes, I do: get a new TC, and then keep replacing it till you get one which
works OK. Repair? Funny. Obviously you have no experience with the process.
Have good luck, Paul [pedit etc.]

Even if it is less than a year old?

STOP, do not send the unit back. It's a simple software problem. Just
install the update from palmone:
http://www.palmone.com/us/support/ [...] te_20.html

I had the same problem and they told me to send the unit back. At that time
I already questioned their statement that it was a hardware problem. After a
few weeks I was right, they came with a software update which solved the
problem.

Wow - mine went from London to Czechoslovakia to have its
screen/digitizer unit replaced in early February (under warranty). I had
no idea this update now existed. The bottom few pixels of my screen
stopped responding after 6 months of use. Almost tempted to wait and see
if it happens again before installing the update...

Yes, even then [which is under warranty]. The more sophisticated these Palms
get the less predictable those repairs and refurbs are. Will they actually
fix your TC instead of giving you a refurb? Well, it may happen although I
wouldn't bet on it. The last time I sent my TC for a repair the only thing
they did to it was to scratch it up all over the place while prying it
open. Did they fix it? Nope. Best regards, Paul

P.S. Still, if you have a TC which works well then you have a great if not
the greatest Palm there is.

Wow - thanks Rob. I have already had one unit replaced, and was having
the same problem with my new unit. Now I've just installed this update,
and problem solved!! Thanks for that indeed. You'd think that having
registered my unit, Palm would at least inform owners of firmware
upgrades such as this one, but alas, no. :( It is left to good folks
like you to let us know. Thanks again :)

Too late!! I've done it. But what problems Paul? Mine seems to be
working just fine here after the update - admittedly only an hour or so
after having done it....

What nasty stuff does this update do? And if it's been out for a while,
wouldn't Palm have fixed it by now if the problems are well known?

May screw up WIFI. You may say good-bye to web browsing via Airport and such
wireless systems. Mine didn't but I know several unlucky users, including
developers of Palm stuff all of us use/know/love.

"wouldn't Palm have fixed it by now if the problems are well known?" This is
the funniest line I heard lately.

Best regards, Paul

I had plenty of WiFi connection problems after TCup2.0, and was ready
to give up. I would be able to connect to my node only say, once out of
every twenty times. This all started after update 2.0, and needless to
say, I was pissed off. Essentially, I traded WiFi connectability for a
"live" bottom set of pixels on the screen.

However, one day I figured I'd better try and solve this problem and I
scoured the net for an answer, looking through numerous forums and web
pages. And I seem to have found the answer to intermittent WiFi
connectivity!

On an obscure palm forum which I can't recall, one user complained
about the same problem. Another poster then said he solved the problem
simply by twisting the palm a bit! Sounds ridiculous, right? Another
poster followed up by saying that it worked for him too.

I was VERY skeptical, but what the heck, it doesn't work anyway. I
fired up the T/C and attempted to connect to my node (only 1m away from
the linksys at the time) and it wasn't connecting, as usual. I then
slightly twisted the T/C case (left thumb pushing down on top-left palm
logo; right thumb pushing down near power-on; other fingers pushing up
on center of rear) and get this - it INSTANTLY connected!

Ever since then I have very consistent connectivity. On rare occasions
when it seems to stall while setting up a connection, I give it a twist
and it connects instantly. Problem is effectively solved. But what an
incredibly stupid solution!

I can't imagine what exactly is going on, since the twist suggests a
hardware problem of some kind (perhaps a loose antenna cable), while
the problem started with a software update. Anyway, I don't know if
this will work for anyone else, but it definitely worked for me.

What type of problems? I am very scared to install this. Will it break
third party programs like CKJOS (http://www.dyts.com/en/) for Asian
characters (input and output), AdvantGo, PrintBoy, WiFi, wireless
printer drivers from HP, WebBrowser Pro v3.0, etc.? Is there a way to
downgrade/undo the upgrade if this major update is no good? I'd hate
to lose all the data (yes, there is a backup on a Windows 2000 machine)
or send it to Palm for a repair.

Thank you in advance. :)

Thanks for the info Paul - mine seems to be working OK at present
(fingers crossed:))

Now THAT is what I call a freaky fix - but if it works, what the heck!
I'll keep this one in the back of my mind, just in case....

Thanks for posting it :)

Where can I get the applications to swap regions? Mostly, they are Palm's
softwares used like VersaMail, Web Browser, etc.
