Computer folder shows nothing

Hello,

My computer folder shows nothing, no HDDs or DVD drives. I checked disk manager everything is properly assigned. I can still open everything via typing C:/ or D:/ in the adress bar, but it's quite annoying.
any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

are there any other symptoms? did you download or install anything recently? say something like "windows7 antivirus 2012". The fake spyware/antiviruses that have those obvious fake names do this sort of thing quite often and there are specific steps to remove them

No, I did a full reinstall this week to put windows on my new faster hard disk. so it's pretty much clean. the only thing I did was hide the 100mb system partition by removing it's drive letter, that did nothing wrong at first. so I suspect that isn't the problem. I have not installed any strange applications since then.

also I just installed iTunes and plugged in my iPod, and that is showing up in computer. so now it is even weirder to me.

I left something enabled in local policy editor which I shouldn't have. solved!
