I have 3 Sprint phones on 2 different accounts and all not working. The
phones are showing Roam and attempting to use the Verizon service. No help
from Sprint, nobody home.

Any ideas? Network problem? Armaggedon?

What do the phones do when you attempt to dial a number? Did you call Sprint
Tech Support for assistance?

Sprint PCS has a fiber cut in MI that is affecting us. I found a quick
blirb here:

My contacts at SBC confirm the fiber cut but nobody is giving a
realistic ETA.

Service could be out for up to two weeks in MI due to the train
incident. That's rough.

Thanks. Man, 2 weeks!

Did you notice where it said "SBC"?

It looks like an interconnect problem between SBC's landline network and
Sprint. The one thing I find interesting is that the fiber cut was in Michigan
and it affected Texas. I find this interesting because they're not only on
opposite sides of the country, one's former Ameritech territory, the other
former Southwestern Bell terriotry. Backhaul from Michigan to Texas must be
pretty damned expensive. (Just found it interesting, as someone who has done
lots of work for ISPs over the years, and thus has had to work with a number of
phone companies, especially SBC.)

Yeah, that bewilderered me, too, Steve, until I studied the maps and
text on the TV station's story (see URL), and concluded that the cut was
in MS=Mississippi, not MI=Michigan.

That makes more sense. Of course, MS isn't SBC territory at all, it's BellSouth :)

Oops, sorry about that guys. I intended Mississippi, I just gave the
incorrect abbreviation.

While that's true, SBC does still likely have backhaul facilities in
various states, even though it may not be the ILEC in all of them.
