Hi All, Can someone please tell me what the audio cable that connects from the CD/DVD drive to the sound card is for. I have 2 drives (a CD and a DVD) and only 1 connection on the sound card but even with this cable only plugged in from 1 drive I can play audio from both. Secondly both drives have headphone connections on their front panels but neither plays audio through this connection...why?

1) some cd-players atempt to digitally extract the music and then pushes the information to the sound card. This doesn't require an audio cable cause it all goes through the IDE cable.

2) the headphone jack should be controlled by a volumn control wheel on the front, have you tried using it? I think it could be possible that when using a media player that uses digital extraction that it doesn't play like normal and therefore doesn't use the headphone jack.
