Ok, so I finally got off my cheap ass, and added a vision package to my
account. What I want to know, as I have never used it before, WHAT do
I need to do to connect my phone to my laptop and use it as a modem.
I'll just be picking up email etc.. so usage will be small, and only
occasional.

I have the cable to connect my Sanyo 8200 to my laptop etc..

Can someone walk me through this?

TIA..

Michael, first off, you need to install your phone drivers for your phone.
Find your phone model here -
http://futuredial.com/support/download/USB_Drivers.htm download and install
it.

Connect the cable to the phone and then to your laptop. It should see the
new hardware, and ask for the drivers to install the new hardware. Point it
to where you downloaded the drivers. Then set up a new dial up, using the
new Samsung set up, and plug in the phone number #777, and do not
include a user name or a password.

Do you folks use the Sprint Connection Manager software, or is the
consensus that it doesn't add much value?

Thanks Bob, I have the full suite of programs, snapdialer, snapmedia,
and snapsync, with the lastest drivers. Snapsync, and snapmedia work
perfect with my Sanyo 8200. I just needed the info you supplied, on how
to set up my software to dial.

Thanks again,

For just using the #777 connection option with vision the sprintpcs
connection manager does not do anything special to make it worth using.

Thanks for the quick reply. I hear they're integrating a compression
client in the next release due out later this year so I'll wait and
take a closer look then.

unless you're using a Mac. In that case, just plug in the phone and
it'll show up as a Sanyo Modem.

I had the USB cable and Sanyo 4900/8200 drivers with it but didn't know how
to use it to dial out. The #777 was the answer, thanks! Not I need to find
some shareware software for transfering multimedia/ringer/games ets from the
computer to/from the phone. Right now, I don't see the importance to
purchace the SNAP software packages. Know of anything? Thanks.

There are two other programs which you can check to see if your phone model
is supported.

www.susteen.com & www.bitpim.org . BitPim is free but it's still
developmental software.
