So why didn't you get a copy, look up the capstain speed control, and
answer his question? Do you expect everyone who has a simple question
will be able to dig the information out of a service manual? Used to
be that we could expect that, but not any more.

The 5050BII has a servo controlled capstan motor. I believe that the
consumer version (which is how the 5050 was first introduced) uses a
synchronous capstan motor, but I'm not sure about that.

Mike: I had one of first MX5050 machines to hit the market back 1975
and the capstan motor was servo controlled.
