After 4 years of loyal services, my Echo Gina20 just died on me. Or rather,
the outputs work but the inputs just died. I've been thinking of upgrading
the card for a while now anyway, so it's just as well.
The obvious upgrade choice was the Gina3G, so I went to the nearest (and
only) Echo dealer in town, and was told they'd just sold the last one. They
expect more within a week or two.
This gives me some time to reconsider whether or not this is the best card
for me right now.
Here in Canada, the Gina3G goes for appx. $440 CND. That is about my price
range, give or take a few. I'm not interested in $1,000+ cards.
The same store also carries M-Audio and others... should I stick with the
original plan and wait for the Gina3G, or should I be looking at something
else?
Multiple outputs can be handy now and then, but aren't an absolute must.
I also like the idea that the Gina3G has its own MIDI port, meaning I no
longer need a 2nd audio card strictly for its gameport (midi) capabilities,
freeing up another PCI slot. 'til now, I had a generic Creative card in
addition to my Gina, strictly for its gameport.
