I have a SCSI 'c' drive already. I want to install a new IDE drive and have it be NOT the c drive.
How? Can someone give me a run through please?
Example of some things I need to know...
-? jumpers on western digital caviar IDE: 'CS' 'master' 'slave'? (never had an IDE)
-? BIOS setup? Adaptec SCSI is on board (supermicro board 1998)
-? SCSI BIOS things?
-? partition and format normally? (it has been a while since I put in a new drive)
-? etc????
well if its the only HDD on the IDE cable then you will set it as MASTER and put it on the far end of the cable.
BIOS you will have the boot order set to scsi first (or at least before IDE)
as long as IDE is after scsi it should be fine (perhaps its called ATA in the bios i can't remember)
since you have a scsi drive as your primary drive you should be able to format and partition in the operating system itself (e.g. in the WinXP tool if you use winXP that is)
that should set you up.
p.s. if you want to add ANOTHER HDD then you would set it too master (if on a seperate cord) or slave if in the middle connector of the same cord as the first.
because the SCSI is already your c drive then the new one will not be!!!
What does "CS" jumper option on the IDE drive mean and do?
Cable Select. It let the system determines either Master or Slave depends on which IDE connector that it's plugged in.
Good or Bad have no meaning at all, depends on what your point of view is.
