I'm mulling over the merits of fitting moving fader automation to my 32
channel custom console (thanks, Jim Williams) and wondered what choices
might be out there. Evidently the Uptown sydstem has been taken off the
market and is only being installed on OEM API consoles. Then there's
Martinsound's Flying Faders, which I imagine is quite pricy (anyone
know how much for 32 channels?). What I'm wondering is if there are
other retrofittable systems that might be more affordable. Given the
preponderance of moving fader DAW controller products it occurred to me
that there might be similar new analog fader implementations as well,
possibly at much lower prices. Just wondering if anyone here knows if
such systems exist. I'm most interested in discrete 100 mm faders that
would install directly into the console as opposed to an outboard
"fader box" type system. Thanks.

I haven't heard of such systems and would be surprised if any exist. DAWs
have pretty much killed that part of the market. Unfortunately. Otherwise,
I'd consider buying one myself, just for fun. Soundcraft Series Two with
moving faders. Yeah. Well, I think Ebay is our friend here.
I assume that yours is a Tascam 3500. Curiously enough, judging by the one
in my colleague's studio, Tascam 3700 was fitted with one of the better
stock VCA automation systems. At least in terms of reliability. Over 11
years without a glitch.
Watch out for available space in the fader bay. IIRC, Tascam 3500 is rather
slim there. The available depth in particular could turn out to be
insufficient for some moving fader systems.
