I'll make this simple. I've had the same phone for over 4 years now. I went
into a Sprint store and, after about an hour, picked out a nice A760. I was
lured by the $150 "instant discount". After starting the purchase process, I
was told the $150 would be sent as a rebate in 6-8 weeks. F that!
I'm sure you all knew that but I sure didn't.
Is there any way to get the discount applied immediately? I am willing to
purchase from any dealer or store, Internet or B&M.
I am willing to sign up for 2 years but want to retain my previous # of
course.
Thanks,
Scott

The $150 *instant* discount is definitely good on new activations. I added a
line to my Sprint account and ported my number over from Verizon and got it.
Whether it's good for phone upgrades on an existing line, I'm not sure. You may
want to clarify that. I'm not sure.

Well, different authorized retailers may have different deals on phones,
although this seems to be more true of other carriers than it is of Sprint.

I think it is an instant discount if you get it on their web site but not
100% sure.

Not that I'm aware of. You can check and see if any other sources, like Best
Buy, Radio Shack, have better pricing.

If you did decide to do the mail in rebate, you would be required to do a 2
year agreement in any event.

All cellular customers, no matter who the provider is, are charged a lot of
money, if they don't want to extend their commitment.
I was going to recommend checking what's available on eBay, but if one does
that and find a phone they are interested in, they also need to get the ESN
on the phone, to make sure there are no encumbrances on it.

No instant rebate unless I add a line.
I tried calling them & tried my best to get a break, but the salesman
wouldn't budge.
In these days of high competition & easy portability of phone #, I don't
understand why they don't try harder to keep me.
I have been with Sprint for way over 7 years w/2 lines on the account. It
would be in my best interest to switch now to another carrier. That way I
would get new phones. The question is who?
All it would take from Sprint would be a little "retention" courtesy thrown
my way & I would stay for many years to come. What's wrong with this
picture? This is the poorest area of customer service I have ever witnessed
in all my consumer years.

I don't understand why you're so opposed to the $150 mail-in rebate.
If you time the billing cycle on your credit card just right, the rebate
will arrive about the same time the credit card payment is due.

I bet the problem has more to do with if the rebate comes, not when.
Personally, I would feel a lot more comfortable if the rebate was at
least approved, in writing, at the time of purchase. Mail-in rebates are
designed to have low returns (redemption companies brag about this).
OTOH, I don't mind Staples latest rebate technique: no paperwork needed
at all, as it's all done online. You can generally tell the rebate will
be OK since there is a unique number printed right on the receipt. You
input this number into the Web site and that's about it. I haven't had
it happen yet, but if for some reason that unique number doesn't work
properly with the Web site, I'll still have time to return the item
(without missing UPC codes, etc.). YMMV.

You call 6-8 weeks within a CC cycle?
My brother waited 9 weeks for his rebate. No thanks.
My issue is: if they can give a new subscriber an instant rebate why
not me?
Same transaction as I am signing a 2-yr & buying a phone.

A low end plan costs $40/mo and adds up to $480/yr
Who the hell even pays $100/year on accessories?
Buy a car charger, leather case, and perhaps a second battery and
you're done. $45-$100 spread over the life of the phone.
Are you one of those pathetic geeks with the flashing blue antenna, enough

I dunno...maybe I just got lucky with this. I've done the $150 upgrade
rebate now on 3 phones without any problems at all. All 3 were eligible at
the same time, I did the first one, mailed in the form, got the rebate check
in about 40 days. Went out, bought the next one. Took about the same length
of time for that check. Cashed that check went to Radio Shack and got
another new phone, processed that form and recieved the rebate check last
week. I mailed it in on Feb 21. So whats that? 38-39 days?
So since December I've got three new phones, true, my 2 year agreement has
changed 3 times but so what, it didn't affect my plan at all, so what do I
care.

The industry claims it costs about $300.00 to obtain a new cellular
customer.
As with the original poster of this thread, I have been a customer of
Sprint PCS for 6 years, and have been using the same phone.
I want a new phone, but they want to charge me for any phone other than
their standard giveaway.
They tell me they can't do that without chaing my number.
When I first discussed this issue with them four months ago, they
entered notes and confirmed that they would allow me $150 instant
credit on any phone if I would not cancel on that day. I've paid four
more months; and today they tell me that due to some regulations, they
cannot honor the "bait" they had offered me.
I do know that if you can get a coporation on a collection account if
you have a business license.
You can also get lawsuits listed in D&B as often a small claims suit
works wonders. In some cases, Municipal Court costs less than $200 if
you have the time to make big trouble.

So? They usually give $150 instant rebate to people in your situation (might be
a mail-in rebate, but I'm pretty sure it's an instant rebate), so you still get
a good price.

Any particular reason why?

At that point, instead of wasting time, I'd just cancel and switch providers.
Maybe port the number out before cancelling. It's a waste of time and money to
go to court in your situation, in my opinion...
