Hi all,
I have a question about using Audacity, probably very basic.
If I open a file that has a sampling rate of 16000, how do I change it
to one with a rate of 44100 without 'compressing' it -- i.e., I don't
want the length to change. I am new to the audio world, but I am
guessing the quality will still be as if it were @ 16000 -- that's ok.
I am trying to use some sounds in a program that is very limited in
that all that sounds it plays must be of the same sampling rate. So I'm
trying to convert everything to be 44100. In Audacity or any other free
sound editor.

Have you tried it? As Audacity is free, you haven't got much to lose....
(Probably worth working on a copy until you're sure it does what you want.)

Open the Help window and Search for "resample" or "sample
rate". Audacity claims to have an automatic sample rate
converter that resamples files of different rates to the
rate of the project (which you can set). Read all the stuff
in the file.
Maybe the info you need is in there.
Just a thought.
Or you could download something like GoldWave that has a
more obvious "Resample..." function.
