Where's the best place to buy tested DDR400?

On Pricewatch in the system memory section, you can get one 512mb stick of ddr400 for $54, but for 1gb of matched ddr400 the price jumps to $234. Why does the price jump $100 just for testing the ram? Is there anywhere I can find a gig of tested ddr400 for cheaper than $234? Couldn't I just buy two identical 512mb sticks from the same vendor and get the desired dual channel operation?

* One of the main contributors to the price is: testing takes time and time is money.

* And you could buy two non-tested sticks and get dual-channel operation.

To make sure you can get the best tested ram go to http://www.newegg.com and lookup corsair XMS ram. This is some of the best ram you can buy and their web site will tell you the timings the ram will run at.

Another place for good memory prices is googlegear . I looked just now and they were $11 cheaper ($284) than newegg ($295).

So if I were to buy 2 corsair 512mb sticks that are identical and from the same seller they should run in dual channel mode? I don't understand why they need to be tested in the first place if you're buying two of the same sticks.

If you're referring to the modules being tested as "Twins," that's a gimmick if I ever saw one. There's no data that shows they are any better. All they do is test the RAM, and pair up the ones that tested out at the same overclocked speed. So if one stick ran at 440 mhz, it will be paired with another stick that tested at 440 mhz. If you do it your way, you might have to settle for 438 mhz! That would be awful!
