I am looking for a volume control. The receiver has a gang of four pots
together. The first pot in the series has a mechanical failure. There is
something broken inside making it difficult to move and there is no
continuity.

Can someone tell me where such a part can be obtained?

Basically from a scrapped unit. You have just discovered the wonder of
working on Japanese consumer electronics... lots of OEM parts that were
specific to one or two models.

And pots are probably the worst of all to get these days.

You might need to buy a unit on eBay.

That number looks dangerously like something from the 70's.
Can you get a diameter measurement across the case, and a
guesstimate of the axial spacing between elements?

Also, what's your time frame? I'll be in PDX in August
and could bring a few (modern, only, I'm sorry) Alps-ii
that might help. I keep this old junque just hoping to
hear such a cry in the wilderness...
