I'm not sure but I think the panel has been in production since late last year. The FFS technology that this uses sounds very promising. If you want to learn a bit about it check <A HREF="http://www.boehydis.com/EngMac/technology/FFSIntro.asp" target="_new">this link</A> out.

Look at this link:
<A HREF="http://www.boehydis.com/EngMac/products/productKind.asp?pdG_Code=2&pd_Num=35&pdvName=Monitor&openBox=1&subBox=1&openSubBox=0" target="_new">http://www.boehydis.com/EngMac/products/productKind.asp?pdG_Code=2&pd_Num=35&pdvName=Monitor&openBox=1&subBox=1&openSubBox=0</A>

It seems that they dropped it to 18-bit color in order to achieve that. Not surprised as AUO and I think Samsung did the same thing.

EDIT:
And it seems that the 14ms Hydis panel used in the Acer AL1731 (it's rated at 20ms, but measures at 14ms) has very low contrast values:

At least the 16ms Hydis panel used in the Acer AL1721 still has high contrast and 24-bit color to accompany the speed.
