I am having a problem with w2k telling me that "a file is corrupt or missing" and windows cant boot. It flags an entire directory, however, not a file. So i went into my trusy linux distro and backed up my needed info, then did a full format and reinstall of w2k(monday). Put all of my stuff back, and i have a working w2k system again. Turned my computer back on today (tuesday), booted into linux, did my think, then needed a windows app, When i booted windows i got the same error. The same directory was flagged too. I tried chkdsk /r and the recovery console, nothing works. I read that NTFS does a bad sector quarantine on format, but if thats the case why didnt it flag that spot?
If this is a bad sector, what util can i use to format and quarantine this bad sector BEFORE I install w2k again?
