I just bought a factory repack Tascam DM24 with 2.1 installed. I plug it
in, turn it on and it goes through fader calibration then freezes on the
mixer graphic screen.

Pressing buttons or doing anything to the controls does not help any.

What should I do? Is this a firmware installation problem or is there a
way to reset?

Any help is greatly appreciated. E-mail Jaosn.M.Brooks@gmail.com

Thanks,
Jason

First read the manual and make sure that there isn't a "reset"
procedure to try. Then make sure that you're pushing the right
buttons. Finally, call TASCAM. If it's broken, don't try to fix it
without consulting the horse.

Frankly, I'd put it in the car, truck it right back to the store, and ask for
another one (and try it out before I left the shop). But if you did what
just about everyone else does these days and bought from a dealer
who you never saw, that might be difficult.

For what it's worth, I bought a B-stock TASCAM CD recorder
from Sam Ash mail order a few years back. It was dead on arrival.
The transport tray wouldn't slide out all the way. I called TASCAM
tech support, they referred me to an authorized service station in
my area, I took it in, and they replaced the transport under warranty.
The cost of the repair (to TASCAM) was greater than what I paid
for the recorder, but that's what warranties are for. Presumably
your console is under a new or near-new warranty. Use it.

There is a reset function on it. Pretty sure it is in the manual. Also
there is a very active tascam forums site. www.tascamforums.com. Has a
DM-24 section. I would call whoever got it from and ask them. Should
be in working order when you buy it. But it might just need that reset.

You can try reinitializing the DM24, if that doesn't work a repack
has a warranty presumably. But be careful when you do this.

INITIALIZATION PROCESS
1. With the power OFF hold down the 2nd F button (far left of the
board), the HIGH button (just above in the EQ section) and the -
button (just to the right in the LIBRARY section) while you turn the
power ON.

2. The DM-24 will boot to DIAGNOSTIC MODE. As soon as you see
DIAGNOSTIC MODE on the display you may release the 2nd F, HIGH and -
buttons.

3. Use the "Down cursor key" to move the indicator to SRAM INIT
(NOT the "SRAM INIT for factory TEST" ) and press ENTER.

4. Press ENTER again to confirm when prompted. A check mark will appear
in the box next to SRAM INIT on the display.

5. Use the "Down cursor key" to move the indicator to FLASH
INFORMATION CLEAR and press ENTER.

6. Press ENTER again to confirm when prompted. A check mark will appear
in the box next to FLASH INFORMATION CLEAR on the display.

7. Use the "Down cursor key" to move the indicator to EXIT and
press ENTER. This will reset the DM-24 back to the original factory
settings and the DM-24 will reboot.

BTW, if you are missing documentation all the DM24 stuff plus some
templates can be found here
http://www.tascam.com/Products/DM24_downloads.html

and at the TascamForums.Com we have pinned some info that might help in
the event of catastrophic failure and you need to reprogram eproms,
etc..

Repost - google apparently went stupid.

Rebooting the Dm24 - be careful and go slow.

INITIALIZATION PROCESS

1. With the power OFF hold down the 2nd F button (far left of the
board), the HIGH button (just above in the EQ section) and the -
button (just to the right in the LIBRARY section) while you turn the

buttons.

3. Use the "Down cursor key" to move the indicator to SRAM INIT
(NOT the "SRAM INIT for factory TEST" selection) and press ENTER.

If your eprom get corrupted or you have other problems, there is a lot
of good info pinnned or searchable at Tascamforums.com.

There really is a factory reset menu with a special key hold on powering on.

I cannot remember now, have a look in
http://www.tascamforums.com/

in the forum DM-24. There you will find a lot of "secret" information on the
great digital desk.

Hermann
