I recently bought a use BBE Sonic Maximizer for my acoustic pieso pickup and
find out that I will never get without one from now on, after some trial and
error tweaking for hours I finally found a good setting that just bring the
pickup to life.
My question is should I get a newer version I'm looking at the BBE 862 on
EBay now and I'm real tempting for the Dual channel capability since I do
have a dual pickup system in my acoustic guitar and I can see good use in
the recording stage of everything for that matter.

I think that the BBE effect is an interesting one and it can be very useful
to add a little attack to things that start out too muffled. But I think it
is very easy to go overboard with it and make everything sound like a Donna
Summers album.

Your application here may be misplaced unless there are some serious
problems with your pickups. Sonic Maximizer is like a pipe wrench... it's
just another tool in the kit, but you really have no general purpose use for
it unless you have a broken pipe or have lost your hammer. I'd follow Hank's
recommendation on this one and Google past discussions. You'll find that
the concensus is that the BBE is for tackling frequency specific problems,
usually for restoring life to previously poorly recorded sources.

One is probably enough, and your $ may be better spent elsewhere.
Assuming you're using a mixer, mix your 2 gtr signals first, then use
the BBE as a bus effect. The BBE sounds great at first, but as time
goes by you find you need less and less - the sound can be fatiguing to
listeners - don't go overboard. One channel is probably enough. They
are handy with anaolog recording, but unnecessary for diigital with
good equipment.

So when a magazine reviewer proclaims that it made all his tracks sound
better...

I'm forced to assume he's a writer and not a recordist, or was paid well by BBE.
