I am going to build a new system and I got this terrible doubt... Please help me choosing...

obs. Both have 8MB cache/7200rpm... Maxtor has FDB and ATA 133, WD is ATA 100...

This is my new system:
A XP 2100+ T-Bred B
Abit NFS-7 V2.0
2x 256MB Kingston HyperX PC2700
GF2 GTS 32MB
HD?
(...)

Thanks

Personally, I have not liked Maxtor. It's basically stems back to their creation and their high end SCSI drives of the time.

That being said.

For the last 4 days, here at work, if have been testing/playing/using the new Western Digital Raptor hard drives. They are only 36gb, but they are FAST!

It seems that you are looking for fast?

Regardless of whether you are looking for speed or not, one thing I would definately head to the SATA drives.

Maybe this will help?
Maybe this will just throw another monkey into the mix?

Just as a side point ata133 is a bs standard as stands right now, it doesn't really offer performance beyond what ata100 gives. As far as my opinion goes, I like the special edition series hard drives from WD, they have the 3 yr war still. After my first couple experiences with maxtor (back when drives were measured in megs not gigs heh...) I won't buy them (3 hard disks, 5 months)-- however in recent years this hasn't been most peoples experience.

Regardless of what harddrive you get, make sure you get 7200 rpm, 8mb cache, fdb and standard bearings are highly illrelevent imho so long as the company has had time to work the kinks out of the technology. I've had a 4 gig and 6 gig drive in one of my old computers (linux server these days) that has been running solid for ... oh... 8 years now and never had problems with either of them (wd and ibm.)

Thanks!

Does the WD SE has FDB?

A 10000rpm SATA drive would be nice but it's only 36GB...
And Abit NF7-S doesn't offer the power plug converter, where can I buy it?

unlikely. But thats relly only an issue if you find drive noise too much and want something quiet. If thats the case, you are better getting a seagate baracuda 5, which are designed for low noise operation.

speed wise the max9 and the JB are virtually identical... indistinguishable in everyday operation. I just like my JB as they still come with nice 3 year warantees.

When companys dropped the warrenties they must have thought no one cared because the drives are more reliable and no need, also easy replaceable. But I got a wd1600jb not only for size but warrenty and the good price that was a good steal (bargain!) for about $120... normal sell online for $160 on pricewatch.

Ok, would u guys consider making an lcd display like the compunurse except with a backlight? A small compunurse like that would kick ass. I am currently doing that, but tests and shite are taking up my time.

Hilbert space is a big place.

depends on who you talk to.
Ive seen some folks in here who have had 3 maxtors in a row die.
a regular IIRC.
