I have two phones on sprint on a "family" plan. We are about 20 months
into the contract and looking to upgrade. According to the sprint site
I am eligable however the site seems to imply that i need to get a
vision pack on the phone if I upgrade.. is that true?

Yes, if you upgrade to a vision capable phone. SPCS gives new Vision
subscribers 2 free months of service. If you find that you don't like
Vision, you have the ability to cancel that option before the 60 days are
up.
As you've been in contract for 20 months on a family plan, I don't think you
will be required to change programs, save for adding the Vision option to
your account.
If you take advantage of the $150 phone mail in rebate, you will be required
to commit to a 2 year annual agreement on that phone.
People who have taken the rebate said they received their rebate check
within 6 to 8 weeks of initiating the upgrade.
