FS: Neumann TLM-103 Professional Microphone
asking: $595
Neumann TLM-103 Microphone in new condition in original wooden box with
shock mount microphone holder. Very low hours. Must raise cash and have
to let this sweet thing go.

Review:
Neumann TLM103
$1864

I have a confession to make: I fell in love with Neumann's TLM170 the
first time I heard it, many years ago, and it's been the first mic I
reach for ever since (when it's available!).

Neumann has the highest of reputations among studio microphones. In
terms of aesthetics alone, Neumann's U87 is the Platonic form to which
most other studio mics aspire. No serious studio is without one (or
several).

The TLM103 is a 'budget' version of the U87. It's by no means cheap,
but it's a third of the price of its older sibling. Neumann are hoping
to capture some of the home studio market with this one.

The U87 is renowned for its warm sound, and the TLM103 is no different.
Where it does differ is that it has only a cardioid directional
response. This is a very quiet microphone, in terms of background
noise, and a very loud microphone in terms of maximum volume it can
reproduce without distortion.

In short, Neumann have come up with another truly great all-round
microphone, and at a price that makes it more accessible than ever. I
want one!

I replied to this ad 14 minutes after you posted it here and accepted your
price without discussion. I took your description of the mic at face value
and, trying to keep it
simple, didn't bug you with any questions about the condition of the item or
with requests for pictures. I even accepted your refusing to deal with
possible insurance issues. I showed a lot of good faith especially
considering your apparent lack of posting history on r.a.p. and absence of
any other references.

Now you're telling me that there are other people who also want the mic and
asking me to go a little higher on the price, so that you can tell them I
offered more. Well, I consider that dishonest and downright lame. I'm no
longer interested in doing business with you.

Wait a minute! The TLM 103 and U 87 have entirely different capsules and
sound NOTHING alike. Your gross misrepresentation to the contrary will be
obvious to those of us who know and unfair for both Neumann and other folks
who may take your claims for the truth.

Good for you, Predrag, for speaking up. IMHO, these sales should be done
on ebay, or some other forum anyway. But since buying and selling here
is a legitimate use of the group, at least we can "out" these
questionable sellers.
