Looking for an easy to use, see phone for someone who is blind in one eye,
and deaf in one ear. It' need to have fairly large, easy to read buttons,
and an external CID would be nice. a speaker phone is also nice, and prefer
flip phones, as most non flips and to compact. I'll be replacing my Samsung
8500, which has most of these features, but the battery life is gone.

The Samsung A620 (VGA-1000) has a slightly larger display and keyboard
than the current crop of phones. Has an external display. No
speakerphone. It's recently discontinued, but there are probably still
new ones available at some Radio Shacks and on eBay, and lots of used
ones on eBay.

No color display will be as easy to read in sunlight as your 8500's
monochrome display, but indoors, you might find the VGA-1000 easier to read.

Here's a website that has replacement batteries in stock for your 8500

To whoever was asking about the 620:

The Radio Shack on Main Street in Hesperia, California has one. I believe
there's a warranty on it that you can't get on an eBay phone. Email me if
you're interested and I'll get the store's phone number for you.

The only reason I didn't buy that specific phone is because I simply didn't
have the money to buy a refurb. I ended up buying off eBay instead. IIRC
it's somewhere between $140 and $170 but it's worth it if you get a phone
with a warranty (in my opinion).

I like my 620. :)
