Pricelist for Okatava MK012's

so my computer is f-ing up pretty bad, so if this message gets post
more than once... my apologies..


Remeber the days when you could pick up a MK012 for 99$ new at your
local GC.. i was floored when i saw that i couldnt find a matched pair
for anything less than 345$ new... I have a budget of 200-225$ for
mic(s) for mainly steel string acoustic guitar. Does anyone know where
to find a used matched pair of mk012's around that pricerange? or
possibly a good price for just one used... or does anyone have any
other recomandations for mic(s) on acoustic guitar around that budget?

any response would be a great help.

If you can up your budget another 50 bucks or so buy a couple of Crown
CM700's. There are 6 of them on ebay right now ending in about 9 hours.
There is also a pair on ebay that are sitting at $150. Here are the

Ain't success wonderful? When there were no other similar mics for
$99, the Russian mic was the hot item. Now that there are a dozen or
more functionally similar (and probably more consistently built)
Chinese mics that have lower landed cost, the Russian mics are no
longer a good loss leader.

This "policy" only came into play about 3 or 4 years ago.

I've been shopping at GC's around the country since ~97 - and I never saw
this policy until 2002 (not saying your store didn't have it, just that it
wasn't common). I've never run across this policy in any other music store.

My three sisters used to return clothes all the time!
In fact, my eldest sister would seam rip a dress, make a pattern, then

I'm not a big fan of GC or Spam Ash, BUT it all comes down to the folks you
know, and who know you. I would always go to this store on 48th St. in
NYC. I bought my first & second guitar there,
a Framus Acc. and a Gretch Anniversary, you know that one by it's color,
which I still call, "mucous green". Anyway, the store was sold to Spam Ash,
and one of the guys I knew went to work at GC.
He sold me some small ticket items last week, for exactly the price I had in
my head, which happened to be his cost.
Can't beat that!
I did buy an MC-12-01 at GC when they first came out, and it's kinda grainy,
IMHO. I bought 2 of them, and wanted to return one.
They didn't have a store policy posted at that time,
but they told me it was against NJ state law to take back the mic.
This was a boldface lie! I asked them, if that's true,show me the law. They
took back the mic and refunded my money.
It was the last time I bought anything from them!

Be careful doing that. You can get some really weird comb filtering
problems when you sum those tracks to mono. Check your mix in mono
before you commit to ANY artificial stereo effect.
