1xEVDO upgrade in process?

Hello, I've been a huge fan of the Sprint PCS Vision $15/mo unlimited
internet pricing model as the connection (after I setup a keep-alive
infinite ping) has been great -- until about 2 months ago. Since
then, connections have been aweful and appear to get worse as local
talk traffic goes up and down.

I have traveled around the whole San Francisco bay area as well as
beyond and have the same problem. From what I can only assume, could
have Sprint PCS upgraded their system to incorporate tighter QoS among
the data traffic to a much lower priority? Does anyone have any
information on this because since EVDO isnt available and no better
pricing/performance package available, I am stuck with bad service. I
would be happy to pay more for higher priority QoS.

$15/month sounds like a handset plan, but infinite pings makes it
sound more like a data card is being used. That wasn't your question,
but knowing how you're accessing the network will help to provide
meaningful answers.

What kind of problems are you having? Dropped connections? Low
throughput? Sites not available? Data calls blocked? Network upgrades
are continuous, but there hasn't been any kind of data QoS system
implemented, so it's hard to tell what's going on considering the
limited info you provided.

Are you using a handset, smartphone, or connection card?

I sure the hell hope you aren't using it with a handset tethered to a
PC. That is against SPCS's TOS and will ruin it for those of us who use
it only with extreme moderation. And if you are using a handset-to-PC
connection, SPCS can cut off your Vision access entirely, charge you by
the KB, or both. Those keep-alive pings alone might end up costing you
well over $100.

If you have a connection card, I'd sure like to know what plan you have
that offers unlimited Vision for only $15 per month. If you have a Treo
or some other smartphone, it's probably just a temporary issue.

I would hope SPCS does indeed sacrifice data for voice, especially for a
$15 per month unlimited plan. I'm sure they always have, but maybe
they're just getting a little better at it. I certainly would be pissed
off if I couldn't make a voice call because some guy is out their
running infinite pings.

All usual disclaimers apply
