My CD-RW is on its last legs (it works but it causes other ide devices to mess up at random) and I am thinking about upgrading to a DVD recorder.

My main concern is value for my money.

I am thinking about getting an NEC 1100a as I heard many manufactures rebrand this drive, and its available for under $200.

Any input/suggestions would be appreciated.

Dunno what prices you can get in your area but if you can afford it there is only one choice for a DVD burner: The Sony DRU500. Sells like hot cakes here in the UK and supports most formats too.

4.77MHz to 4.0GHz in 10 years. Imagine the space year 2020 :)

We should wait for the reviews of LiteOn and Optowrite DVD±RWs's before we recommend them

Newegg.com has the Lite-On 4x + or - DVDR/RW, with 24x10x32xCDR/RW capabilities, for about $315 + tax and $6 shipping. Let us know if anyone takes the plunge, as to how it does real-life stuff.
Good Luck,
