I have two hd's on my system, a 40 gig set to master and a four gig set to slave...there are no probs with the 40 gig
The four gig however will only format in windows xp to 1.84 gig...i have low level formatted it...i have deleted all of the partition info and redone it but nothing seems to work...xp always partitions it to 1.84 gig...anyone have any ideas?

both fdisk and the bios recognise that there is four gigs of space on the drive...windows however, refuses to access the drive until it is formatted and when i do format it, it formats to 1.84 gigs

after you format it with the boot disk, you go into win xp and it tells you it needs to be formated?

LOL

Sounds almost like the drive wants to be formatted out to FAT16...

One other thing you can check... make sure LBA mode is enabled in the BIOS... that's the only other thing I can see that could cause the trouble. Believe it or not, some hard drives have to be manually adjusted to use LBA because the BIOS doesn't detect it properly.
