I just finished building a pc from parts I had in my old pc before I upgraded it. The cpu, motherboard, memory, and video card are all from my old pc. The maxtor 80 gb hd, mad dog cdrw, floppy drive, and case/pwr supply are all new. I formatted the hd and installed windows 98 and then upgraded it with xp. When I boot it up it goes to the win xp logo and the green box that goes across the screen freezes and the computer never gets to the log on screen. When it prompts me at a restart to use safe mode I am able to use safe mode with no problems. I tried reinstalling win xp, but it freezes with about 34 minutes to go. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Why did you put in win98 then XP over top of it?

Boot directly into the XP disk and do a full install. That will probably clear up your problem.

Reformat, do your full install of 98, then install the full version of XP to it's own partition (you can create partitions in the XP setup).
