Usaa Affinity Discount?

I just noticed this on my bill, due to the new bill format. It's a $3
discount, but I don't know what it's for, nor why it's on my bill. In
checking past bills, it appears this has been going on since May of
2004. I often have called for "dropped call" and other credits, so this
discount never really stood out.

Anyone know what it is, and why it would suddenly appear on my bill,
albeit a year ago? AFAIK, I have no affiliation with "USAA" (not even
sure what it is--seems there are several outfits that use those
initials).

I do recall speaking with a rep sometime last spring (or summer) and the
rep mentioning something about "saving a few dollars per month" (if she
could finagle the system or something like that).

Also, when my contract was up last August I was offered (a few)
additional anytime minutes, 7PM N&W, and an instant $300 credit on my
account so I didn't have to go the rebate route. The two phones I
planned to replace weren't 18-months old at the time, so I wouldn't have
normally been eligible for the rebates (indeed the CSR hinted that, with
the instant credit, I didn't actually have to buy any phones at all). I
got the $300 credit and 7PM N&W, but no additional minutes. However, my
contract was also never extended. Weird...

Could this be related to the USAA thing?

United Services Automobile Association <http://www.usaa.com> is
essentially an insurance company for members of the armed services.
They have some kind of affinity arrangement with Sprint.

So maybe your "friend" finagled the Sprint computer so they think you're
part of USAA?

I hope the CSR didn't do that, as I think there may be drawbacks to
having an account attached to some kind of discount program. The United
States Axemen's Association also goes by USAA, but I surely hope the CSR
didn't go that route. She did ask if I was a vet, but certainly not an
"axeman!"

The CSR should have asked for your USAA member number to verify.
It is a straight 5% discount last I looked, I get a state employee
affinity discount now which surpasses (and supercedes) the 5% USAA.
