Volume Control icon in task bar dissapeared on my Windows 7

I've read past threads over this topic in Windows XP. the Sound Devices link does no longer exist in the Control Panel in Windows 7. How does it work in 7?

uninstall the audio driver and restart the computer. Windows 7 will automatically re-install the driver on re-start. (assuming the sound card is not dead)

Your suggestion worked the sound control image reappeared on the taskbar, for some reason now i have an older driver than the one i had installed until the problem surfaced.
