Consider Triode Electronics in Chicago. They have a wide range of decent
tubes.

Realize that there are a lot of "6L6" tubes out there that don't even come
close to meeting the original 6L6 specifications, too. Ned at Triode will
at least steer you away from those.

The 6C10 and 6CX8 are going to be inexpensive if you can find them...
compactrons are not exactly valuable tubes these days. The 12AX7 and
12AT7 are available in decent current production for cheap.

Hi Ya'll,
I would suggest bringing it to a "Tube" tech who should have the
tubes to test the chassis, set the proper bias and probably replace
some capacitors. Check out the reviews at harmony central dot com and
I believe you'll find it worthwhile. I completly re- tubed my twin
with electro harmonix 6L6s and Groove tubes and nos fender branded for
about everthing else and it cost about 185 dollars at Muscians Friend
and another local music store. Sounds like a Million Bucks! If you
decide you don't want to mess with it or end up with tubes you can't
use you may contact me at Jeff Dot Colon at gmail dot com. I got so
much tube stuff laying around I could always use more. whatever you do,
don't power it without tubes or a load connected to the
output.......good luck J.

I'm not sure what you mean or why this is even part of your answer but to
clarify things I can use this amp

That is part and parcel of the gameplan with this chassis, I'm just looking
at various options before taking it in to a "real shop".

The Police were notified and given the serial # as well as the more
reputable used instrument dealers in the area not to mention putting the
word out in the community it's now been two years so it's become finders
keepers

Yes, but if you have to buy the tubes and do extensive repairs, it may
not be worth it. What I meant was that you don't have to buy the
tubes to determine the condition of the amp, and that's the first
thing you have to do.

This is related to the tendency to buy a bunch of recording gear
(without having a good studio space and without knowing beans about
the technology) rather than going to a studio to make a recording.
It's always something along the lines of "I'm not good enough to pay
for a studio so I'll just buy the equipment and learn as I go along."
But that doesn't have anything to do with this amplifier.

Oh. I guess that if I had something like that for two years, I'd have
been more curious than you as to whether it was in working condition.

Well, neither EH nor Sovtek actually manufacture tubes.
EH and Sovtek are both brand names owned by the same importer, New
Sensor. If you buy an EH or a Sovtek tube, they could have been
manufactured by Reflector, Ulyanov, or a dozen other Russian companies.

To be honest, I think the Sovtek 5881WXGT beats any of the NOS 6L6 devices
hands down. It might not be such a good choice on a guitar amp because it
is nearly impossible to overload the thing. But there has honestly been a
lot of engineering going on in the tube world in the past thirty years since
US manufacturers started giving up on tubes, and some of the new production
stuff is pretty impressive.

Mike Matthews was the owner and designer of Electro-Harmonix. He
retired for a while, then started Sovtek.
