I wan't to dual boot Windows ME and Windows 2000 Pro. I have never done this before at all. My friend said I'll need 4 boot disks. Where can I get the boot disks. He also said to partition my Hard Drive with Partition Magic. He also said to name the new Windows 2000 folder something other than "Windows" (obviously so I don't erase my ME files). Please help me, I need answers to these questions. Also are there any step-by-step guides out there on doing this. Thanks for any halp you can give me.

I would make 2 partitions. To do this, you can use a Win98 startup disk and type FDISK at the prompt. For the bootdisks for Win2K, you can find the creator for them under the "Bootdisk" folder of the CD.

I heard using FDISK to partition the drive gets rid of everything. I wan't to keep all the files that I currently have. I definately don't want to lose any data! Any info on this?

In that case, then Partition Magic is the way to go. It gives you a lot of control over how your hard drive is partitioned.

Any tips on things not to do when installing Windows 2000?

Will it ask what partition I want Windows 2000 on?

Thanks for the help, your information has been very useful for someone who has never done this before.

Make sure PQ boot or bootmagic is not installed with Partition Magic. The Win2K dual loader will conflict with it. Best to stick to the W2K option.

You can install 2000 onto the same partition as ME, which is your easiest option since you want to keep your current config. Should be able to just boot up into ME and then put your 2k disk in and go from there.

Yes, there should be an option in there somewhere for a dual boot situation. I look it up in a minute to see exactly what steps it is but it is possible, I have one running with 98 and 2k like that at school.

the only snag with having both on the same partition, is when 98 needs reinstalling.

Note I say WHEN, and not IF ;)

That alone is the sole reason why I went with System Commander instead of that or Lilo.

Having completely seperate and independent OS's on your computer is like a warm blanket...
