i have recently experienced problems with my Hard drive.
when i switch on from cold there some time is a whining/grinding noise comming from the hard drive "i think". so i quickly turn off and rehit the botton and every thing is fine!!! ALSO i am experiencing delays when trying to enter control pannel and my computer some times it dosnt respond!!!
if anyone has any ideas please let me know

Whining noise is quite normal in many high speed hard drives. However, if the noise is very loud, then it might mean the drive has problem. As for the delays, check if you have enabled DMA for the hard drive. Also did the problem happen since day 1 you installed the HD?

You might also verify that it is a harddrive. Whenever I leave my computer out in the car overnight and try to run it it is a fan than makes a grinding noise

You could open the case and start the machine and stop the fans with your finger or a pencil to see if the noise stops.
