DVD Player and 5.1 Sound

Which player has the ability to give 5.1 sound without downmixing to two channels? I'm currently using ATI DVD but that downmixes, so I'm not getting pure 5.1 with that player. I'm just wondering if there are any players that give 5.1 without downmixing (hopefully one that's free to download).

I thought all DVD players (or drives, I assume that's what you meant) are capable of giving 5.1 sound thru the IDE cable and then the S/PDIF port of the sound card. The decoding into 5.1 audio channels is done by an external decoder, such as AV receiver.

Maybe your problem has something to do with the sound properties in Windows not configured properly?

No, I'm talking about software. The program used to watch DVDs (ex. MSI DVD, NVDVD, ATI DVD, etc...) LOL

Darn! I made a fool out of myself.
I'm not sure about ATI DVD, but other players like PowerDVD and WinDVD allow you to select sound output thru the S/PDIF interface where you can get 5.1 from an external decoder like I said.
